Role Overview
We are looking for a Technical Writer who can translate complex technical concepts into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, and Customer teams to create high-quality documentation that enables developers and operators to successfully adopt and scale OpenObserve.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with cloud-native technologies, open-source tools, and developer-focused products.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation & Content Creation
Create, edit, and maintain technical documentation using Markdown and reStructuredText
Develop and improve product documentation, including:
Installation and deployment guides
Configuration and usage documentation
API references and examples
Troubleshooting and best-practices guides
Write clear, concise, and accurate documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences
Developer & Open-Source Documentation
Manage documentation repositories on GitHub, including version control, reviews, and contributions
Collaborate with engineers to document new features, APIs, and architectural changes
Ensure documentation aligns with product releases and open-source standards
Review and accept documentation contributions from the community
Technical Collaboration
Work closely with Engineering, Product, and Customer Success teams to gather technical insights
Participate in design discussions to understand technical workflows and system behavior
Validate documentation by testing features, APIs, and workflows hands-on
Required Skills & Qualifications
3+ years of experience as a Technical Writer for developer-focused or infrastructure products
Strong proficiency in Markdown and reStructuredText
Hands-on experience using GitHub for documentation workflows
Solid understanding of observability concepts (logs, metrics, traces)
Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
Experience documenting APIs, including REST endpoints, schemas, and examples
Ability to explain complex technical systems clearly and accurately
Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation quality
Nice to Have
Experience documenting open-source projects
Familiarity with observability tools such as OpenObserve, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or ELK
Basic scripting or developer background (YAML, JSON, CLI tools)
Experience with documentation tooling (MkDocs, Sphinx, Docusaurus, etc.)
Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
