The Team & The Product
Adobe Streaming Media powers live events, broadcast platforms, and on-demand streaming experiences for some of the world's largest media companies. When a major sporting event streams to millions of viewers simultaneously, or a broadcaster needs per-session playback telemetry at scale, the infrastructure underneath is ours.
Media Analytics is a production-critical platform — not a prototype, not a rewrite. It processes high-volume event streams with requirements on latency, data correctness, and cost efficiency. The engineering challenge here is not building from scratch; it is keeping a complex, widely-used system reliable and observable while continuously improving it.
This environment requires thoughtful integration of AI-assisted analytics and human-led workflows within production systems.
AI capabilities are developed and deployed alongside real distributed systems, streaming pipelines, and operational constraints.
The Role
We are seeking a Sr. Software Development Engineer to contribute to the evolution of data and service platforms behind Adobe Analytics and Customer Journey Analytics.
This role focuses on:
Distributed systems
Event streaming architectures
Operational excellence
Analytics and workflows refined by artificial intelligence
You will help build and maintain systems that remain reliable and accurate under high traffic conditions, while enabling AI-powered capabilities such as assisted insights, conversational analytics, and automated workflows.
What You’ll Work On
Build and operate cloud-native, distributed platforms for analytics and AI-enabled features
Develop and improve event-driven and streaming platforms such as Kafka and related technologies
Translate product and business requirements into scalable, production-ready solutions
Identify and address performance, reliability, and cost challenges in existing systems
Contribute across the development lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring
Participate in on-call rotations and support incident response and system reliability improvements
Integrate AI/ML capabilities into production systems built on strong data foundations
Collaborate with and support other engineers to improve overall system quality
What We’re Looking For
This role combines elements of software engineering and AI integration. It is suited for engineers who recognize the importance of strong system foundations in enabling effective AI capabilities.
You should apply if you have:
4+ years of experience building or operating distributed systems, backend services, or large-scale data platforms
Experience with event streaming or messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, Flink, Kinesis)
Experience with data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Databricks, Flink)
Familiarity with production environments, including Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and incident response
Experience designing and operating RESTful services
Proficiency in Java (Python or other languages are also valuable)
Focus on reliability, performance, and cost efficiency in system design
AI-Related Expectations
This role does not require deep research expertise in AI.
However, candidates should be able to:
Incorporate AI/ML functionalities into production systems
Evaluate system behavior, observability, and failure scenarios related to AI features
Apply responsible AI principles, including privacy, transparency, and safety
Treat AI components within the overall system architecture
You'll stand out if you have:
Experience with Scala
Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Argo
Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
Experience operating systems under high-traffic conditions
Exposure to AI-enabled features, LLM APIs, or production AI systems
Familiarity with monitoring AI/ML performance and data quality
Why This Role
Contribute to a widely used, production-grade platform
Help shape how AI is integrated into large-scale analytics systems
Work on systems with real users, real workloads, and measurable impact
Participate in platform-level decision making and technical direction
Why Media Analytics, Why This Role
Media Analytics sits at an interesting intersection: a stable platform with real operational complexity, a clear user base, and measurable impact — without the chaos of a system that's still figuring out what it is.
For engineers who find satisfaction in making systems more reliable and more efficient — rather than chasing the next rewrite — this is a strong fit. The Bucharest team operates with the same engineering standards and ownership model as any other Adobe location, with direct input into technical direction.
