Job Description

Help us tackle the growing wildfire crisis with the latest advancements in AI and IoT

Who we are

The problem: Every minute matters in fire response. As climate change amplifies the intensity of wildfires—with longer fire seasons, dryer fuels, and faster winds—new ignitions spread faster and put more communities at risk. Today, most wildfires are detected by bystanders and reported via 911, meaning it can take hours to detect a fire, verify its exact location and size, and dispatch first responders. Fire authorities need a faster way to detect, confirm, and pinpoint fires so that they can quickly respond—preventing small flare-ups from becoming devastating infernos.

About Pano: We are a 150+ person growth-stage hybrid-remote start-up, headquartered in San Francisco. We are the leader in early wildfire detection and intelligence, helping fire professionals respond to fires faster and more safely—with the right equipment, timely information, and enhanced coordination—so that they can stop a new ignition before it grows. Pano AI combines advanced hardware, software, and artificial intelligence into an easy-to-use, web-based platform. Leveraging a network of ultra-high-definition, 360-degree cameras atop high vantage points, as well as satellite and other data feeds, Pano AI produces a real-time picture of threats in a geographic region and delivers immediate, actionable intelligence.

Pano AI is on TIME's list of the 100 Most Influential Companies of 2025! MIT Technology Review listed Pano as one of the top 15 climate tech companies to watch in 2024, and Fast Company named Pano AI one of the Top 10 most innovative companies in AI of 2023. We’ve also been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and CNBC News. Pano AI’s dozens of government and enterprise customers span 16 states in the U.S., five states in Australia, and BC, Canada, and we are currently monitoring over 30 million acres of land. Pano AI has raised $89M in venture capital funding from Giant Ventures, Liberty Mutual Ventures, Tokio Marine Future Fund, Congruent Ventures, Initialized Capital, Salesforce Ventures, and T-Mobile Ventures. The Role

The Cross-Platform Mobile Engineer will architect and build brand new cross-platform mobile applications from the ground up that will serve as a core part of our early wildfire detection stack. This is a greenfield opportunity where you will have the chance to make foundational technical decisions and shape the product from day one. You'll work within a dedicated cross-functional agile team comprising a product manager, product designer, and fellow frontend, backend, and QA engineers. You will collaborate across teams to align on requirements, design, and rollout. We're looking for someone who's naturally curious, excited to learn and help others grow, and who thrives in a collaborative, people-centered environment.

What you’ll do

  • Mobile App Development: Architect and lead development of mobile applications supporting wildfire detection and response.

  • Feature Development: Own end-to-end delivery of new features from design collaboration through implementation, testing and deployment to deliver on our product goals.

  • Code Quality: Champion readable, testable, and accessible code. Conduct thorough code reviews, uphold best practices, and contribute to evolving coding standards across the team.

  • Codebase Health: Balance new feature delivery with ongoing maintenance, technical debt reduction, and legacy application improvements to maintain a healthy, sustainable engineering environment.

  • Developer Onboarding: Train and support experienced web developers as they get up to speed with mobile development.

  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and advocate for new tools and technologies, including GenAI-powered developer tools, ensuring adoption of solutions that genuinely serve the team's needs.

What you’ll bring

  • 5–10 years of cross-platform mobile engineering experience, with a track record of delivering production-quality, scalable applications.

  • Mobile Application Deployment and Maintenance: proven history of deploying Android and iOS apps, overseeing their technical performance, and keeping them updated.

  • Technical proficiency across React Native, TypeScript, Jest, and a state management solution such as Redux, Zustand, or Recoil.

  • Design system expertise: Experience with design systems like Material Design and component libraries such as Material-UI, with an eye for consistency and development efficiency.

  • Strong debugging and integration skills: Able to identify and resolve issues promptly, and proficient in integrating RESTful APIs between frontend and backend systems.

  • Clear communicator: Able to convey technical decisions across engineering, product, and design, and comfortable working within an Agile delivery model.

  • Comfort with GenAI tools: Actively incorporates AI-assisted development tools into daily workflows.

  • Preference for someone in MST or PST time zone.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with design systems and component libraries

  • Experience with HTML Canvas

  • Experience working with frontend monorepos

  • Experience with Storybook

  • Experience with mapping technologies like Mapbox

  • Experience with fullstack development

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, such as GCP and AWS
