Wazo builds programmable, API-first communication infrastructure and applications.

We power unified communications at the infrastructure level:

real-time systems, SIP signaling, WebRTC, media flows, distributed services, and high-availability architectures and applications based on those.

This is not feature-layer work.

This is mission-critical telecom infrastructure.

Our Hiring Philosophy

We hire systems engineers who can reason about complex, evolving environments. We expect strong depth in at least one domain, and the curiosity to operate beyond it as the system demands. If you prefer working strictly within a single framework or language, this role may feel constrained.

Our current environment includes:

• Backend services primarily in Python
• Mobile core in Kotlin and Swift
• Real-time infrastructure components across multiple technologies

Familiarity matters less than your ability to learn quickly, write maintainable systems code, and protect operational integrity. Technology choices evolve. System thinking does not.

The Role

You will work on:

• SIP / VoIP signaling
• RTP media flows
• Distributed backend systems
• Event-driven architectures
• Low-level networking and performance-sensitive components
• AI-augmented engineering workflows

You will contribute across layers — from protocol handling to API orchestration.

You will own:

• Architecture: clean interfaces between protocol handling, media, and API layers
• Reliability & operability: instrumentation, debugging, incident follow-ups, hardening
• Performance: latency, throughput, resource usage, media path efficiency
  
  

AI-Native Engineering

We operate with an agent-centric model. AI is used to accelerate execution (drafts, refactors, tests, runbooks), but humans own correctness.

You will provide direction, constraints, validation, and long-term coherence. You will set constraints, review outputs critically, and ensure changes align with long-term architecture. AI assists with drafting, refactoring, tests, and documentation.

The bottleneck is judgment.

We are looking for engineers who can supervise quality, protect architectural integrity, and make sound trade-offs at scale

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of professional experience (6–10 considered for exceptional system-level profiles)
• Strong system thinking is required
• Experience in distributed or real-time systems
• Comfort near infrastructure layers
• Autonomous, high-ownership mindset
• Product awareness
• Telecom experience is a plus. Systems thinking is essential.
• Engineering school background
• Based in Canada between Ontario and East Coast as the company is between Europe and North America

Le rôle

Vous travaillerez sur :

• Signalisation SIP / VoIP
• Flux média RTP
• Systèmes backend distribués
• Architectures event-driven
• Composants réseau bas niveau et sensibles à la performance
• Workflows d’ingénierie augmentés par l’IA

Vous contribuerez sur l’ensemble de la stack, du traitement protocolaire jusqu’à l’orchestration via API.

Vous serez responsable de :

• Architecture : interfaces propres entre couches protocole, média et API
• Fiabilité & opérabilité : instrumentation, debugging, gestion des incidents, durcissement
• Performance : latence, débit, utilisation des ressources, efficacité des chemins média
  

Ingénierie AI-Native

Nous opérons selon un modèle centré sur les agents. L’IA est utilisée pour accélérer l’exécution (drafts, refactorings, tests, runbooks), mais les humains restent responsables de la justesse.

Vous apporterez direction, contraintes, validation et cohérence long terme. Vous définirez les garde-fous, évaluerez les productions de manière critique, et vous assurerez que les évolutions respectent l’architecture globale. L’IA assiste sur la production de code, les tests et la documentation.

Le goulot d’étranglement est le jugement.

Nous recherchons des développeurs capables de superviser la qualité, protéger l’intégrité architecturale et prendre des décisions pertinentes à l’échelle.

Profil recherché

• 10+ années d’expérience professionnelle (6–10 ans pour des profils systèmes exceptionnels)
• Forte capacité de raisonnement système
• Expérience en systèmes distribués ou temps réel
• À l’aise proche des couches infrastructure
• Forte autonomie et sens des responsabilités
• Sens produit
