Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle.
Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform.
Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency.
With a global team across 26 offices and 25 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster.
Position Summary
About the role
- LLM/AI Acceleration: Drive research, experimentation, and productionization of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tools to augment developer workflows, focusing on areas like code generation, intelligent testing, auto-documentation, and automated troubleshooting to dramatically improve efficiency and productivity.
- Developer Tooling & Platform Strategy: Design, develop, implement, and maintain core developer tools and services (e.g., code coverage, code review, unit/contract test framework, artifact management) to create a seamless and low-friction Developer Experience (DevEx).
- CI/CD Optimization: Lead the architecture and continuous improvement of our internal CI/CD pipelines (leveraging the Harness Platform) to ensure fast, reliable, and secure deployments.
- Build & Test Tuning: Identify and aggressively eliminate performance bottlenecks in large-scale build and test systems, implementing advanced caching, parallelization, and build graph optimizations to significantly reduce cycle time.
- Code Quality Enforcement: Implement and manage tooling for code coverage and static/dynamic analysis, seamlessly integrating them into the pipeline and code review process.
- Servant Leadership & Coaching: Partner with feature teams, acting as an empathetic consultant and platform advocate. You measure your success by the success of your internal customers (our developers), providing guidance, reducing their toil, and ensuring they have the best environment to ship code.
- Metrics & Observability: Define, track, and report on key developer productivity and platform health metrics (e.g., DORA metrics). Implement robust monitoring, logging, and tracing to provide deep visibility into developer platform reliability and performance.
About you
- Experience: 5-8 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on Developer Productivity, DevOps, or Product Engineering.
- Programming & Scripting: Strong proficiency in at least one major language used for backend development and tooling (e.g., Go, Python, Java) and strong shell scripting skills.
- CI/CD Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience designing and operating Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery systems at scale. Practical knowledge of the Harness Platform is a significant plus.
- Build System Mastery: Extensive experience with build tools (Maven, Gradle, Bazel, or similar) and a proven track record of successfully implementing complex build tuning and optimization strategies.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Solid working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for managing build environments and application deployments.
- Mindset: Demonstrated commitment to Servant Leadership principles, prioritizing the needs of development teams and passionate about reducing developer toil.
Desired qualifications (not required)
- Proven experience working with or integrating LLM APIs or code assistant tools (e.g., Copilot, internal LLMs) into the SDLC.
- Familiarity with Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Experience with advanced security tooling integration into the SDLC (Shift-Left Security).
- Fluency in English (verbal and written) is highly valued for communication with global teams.
