The Regional Director, Field Medical Affairs will provide strategic and operational leadership for a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) within an assigned U.S. region. This field-based leadership role is responsible for ensuring high-quality scientific engagement, insight generation, and KOL relationship development aligned with company medical strategy.
This individual will oversee regional KOL engagement strategy, coach and develop MSL talent, contribute to congress planning, and serve as a key liaison to cross-functional partners including Government Affairs, HEOR, Clinical Development, and Commercial. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in psychiatric disorders, strong people leadership capability, and experience operating in a small, fast-growing biotech environment.
Responsibilities:
Field Medical Leadership & Regional Strategy
- Recruit, onboard, train, and develop MSL talent to build a culture of excellence and accountability
- Maintain KOL engagement during team hiring and provide ongoing senior-level scientific engagement with select Tier 1 KOLs as appropriate
- Oversee regional KOL mapping, segmentation, and engagement plans aligned with national medical strategy
- Conduct field coaching, ride-alongs, and ongoing development conversations to elevate scientific excellence and compliant engagement
- Ensure consistent, high-quality scientific exchange across all regional interactions
- Monitor regional performance metrics, insight quality, and CRM documentation standards
- Identify regional trends and escalate actionable insights to Medical Affairs leadership
Medical Affairs & Scientific Engagement Oversight
- Guide regional execution of scientific engagement at national and regional psychiatry conferences, advisory boards, and educational events
- Partner with Medical Affairs leadership on congress strategy, staffing, and post-congress insight synthesis
- Oversee regional support for clinical trial site identification and enrollment initiatives
- Maintain MSL metrics to measure field impact and operational success
- Ensure all field activities are conducted in accordance with company policies, regulatory guidelines, and compliance requirements
Government Affairs, Advocacy & HEOR Collaboration
- Serve as regional Medical Affairs lead in partnership with Government Affairs and HEOR to provide scientific expertise in policy discussions and stakeholder briefings
- Support identification and engagement of relevant regional policymakers, advocacy organizations, and mental health stakeholders
- Collaborate with Medical Communications on the development of slide decks and educational materials intended for government and policy audiences
- Represent the company, as requested, at regional policy-related forums and advocacy events
Medical Affairs Infrastructure & Capability Building
- Partner with Senior Director, Field Medical Affairs to scale regional infrastructure and field excellence standards
- Collaborate with Medical Communications to develop MSL tools and resources (e.g., slide decks, FAQs)
- Contribute to development and refinement of SOPs, KPIs, CRM design, and insight capture processes
- Support onboarding and advanced training initiatives for current and future MSLs
- Provide input into annual medical planning, resource allocation, and regional budgeting considerations
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Minimum of 7–10+ years of Medical Affairs experience; psychiatry/CNS experience required
- Prior MSL leadership or people management experience strongly preferred
- Record of successfully supporting pre-launch through launch-stage companies
- Experience engaging with policy, government affairs, or advocacy stakeholders preferred
- Deep understanding of psychiatric disease states, treatment paradigms, and the U.S. healthcare landscape
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop high-performing scientific field teams
- Strong executive presence and ability to engage senior academic and policy stakeholders
- Familiarity with CRM systems, insight tools, and compliant field operations
- Comfortable operating in a high-growth, fast-paced biotech environment with cross-functional collaboration
- Willingness to travel up to 60% as needed
The starting base pay range for this position is $265,124.00 - $285,000.00. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, skill set, years of experience, and the employee’s geographic location.
