Summary


We are seeking a highly qualified Metallurgist to join our innovative R&D team in Montreal. This role is critical to advancing our materials science initiatives and developing next generation of soldering alloys for high-performance electronic assembly applications. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in metallurgy, strong analytical skills, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of soldering alloys innovation.

 

Responsibilities


  • Lead R&D projects focused on developing new solder alloys for advanced applications.
  • Design and execute experiments to improve mechanical, thermal, and reliability characteristics of solder alloys.
  • Perform failure analysis, microstructural characterization, and metallurgical testing using advanced techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, etc.).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, production) to transition R&D findings into scalable solutions.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in metallurgy and materials science.
  • Prepare technical reports, publish findings, and present results to internal stakeholders, external partners, and at technical conferences.


Qualifications 


  • PhD. in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or related field (Master’s degree with significant experience will be considered).
  • 5+ of experience in metallurgical research or industrial applications.
  • Hands-on experience in developing solder alloys and powder manufacturing (strong asset).
  • Experience in reliability testing and data analysis of solder joints.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including casting, extrusion, and additive manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of physical metallurgy, thermodynamics, and phase transformations.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards for electronic assembly and soldering, including IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC-TM-650
  • Proven track record of innovation and problem-solving in material development.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
