We deliver our world-class insights and advocacy solutions through our local presence, which transcends the African continent.
We operate as one company, with a diverse team working on a hybrid basis in Abuja, Cape Town, Dakar, Dar es Salaam, Gaborone, Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, and London. We are risk analysts, development economists, advocates, storytellers, data scientists, policy experts, systems thinkers and creative minds. Over 80% of our staff are African and over 50% are women. About the role
The Associate Consultant will be a dedicated marketing and business development support role, focused on maintaining the commercial foundations that enable Africa Practice to grow our client base and win material opportunities, including multi-year grants and contracts. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to work as part of a growth engine that bridges the gap between marketing and business development, ensuring the client journey is smooth from the very first contact through to a long-term relationship.
Your role will involve supporting targeted campaigns and coordinating engagement with qualified leads and prospects. In addition to this, as a core member of Africa Practice’s Growth team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the assets and data needed for market engagement are organised, updated, and ready for use by the Growth team and the broader firm. The day-to-day will look like:
- Asset development & maintenance: regular updating of team biographies and CVs, case studies, and credentials to ensure they communicate Africa Practice’s brand story, unique value proposition, and differentiated solutions to ensure they are always collateral- and proposal-ready.
- Campaign delivery support: assist in the activation of marketing campaigns and thought leadership content by preparing content and supporting the positioning plans for leadership. This includes coordinating core support functions, such as content and event calendar maintenance, creative “brain trust” team scheduling, and content preparation and production.
- Proposal development: support Africa Practice’s responses to competitive and direct sales opportunities through coordinating the proposal development process. More specifically, by maintaining an accurate opportunity pipeline within Salesforce, capturing prospective opportunities from our procurement platform (DevelopmentAid), ensuring all competitive opportunities are screened through our selection criteria and Go/no-go, and that proposal leads are supported through the process with the required tools and assets.
- Data & analytics support: Maintaining up-to-date data on business development performance (Salesforce reports and dashboards) and marketing campaign performance; pulling data from Looker and Hubspot, and producing summary reports for distribution within the Growth team and across the organisation.
- Market intelligence research: conduct market research on a cross-section of actors relevant to our priority thematic areas and markets to inform Africa Practice’s positioning strategy and account growth plans.
What we are looking for
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- At least 2-3 years of experience as a dedicated commercial team member
- A proven track record of developing and maintaining essential commercial documents—e.g. team bios and CVs, case studies, capabilities statements, and firm decks—accurate and ready to use for following up with prospective clients and drafting proposals (skills in data management and analytics are critical).
- Ability to support integrated marketing campaigns, helping to turn initial interest into real revenue and strategic partnerships.
- Proven ability to prioritise deliverables across multiple workstreams while proactively communicating support needs to ensure project success.
- Proficiency in Salesforce and HubSpot is highly desirable.
- Digitally agile, with an understanding of how to use data and emerging tools to support marketing and business development goals.
- An understanding of how policy and advocacy work together to drive progress in these areas: the energy transition, food sovereignty, governance, the digital economy, and the innovation/startup ecosystem
- Curiosity about politics, policy and social change in Africa and interest in tracking trends in our industry is essential
- A general understanding of the issues critical to Africa’s future is advantageous.
What we offer
We offer the successful candidate an opportunity to develop a rewarding career within a dynamic pan-African consultancy advising a prestigious portfolio of clients. This position offers:
- Competitive remuneration
- Immediate opportunities for growth
- Collaboration with a diverse and experienced team of colleagues
