About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Enterprise team at WATI — one of the largest WhatsApp Business API SaaS platforms globally, serving tens of thousands of businesses.

You will own core backend features end-to-end: from requirement analysis and technical design, through implementation, to production monitoring. The work spans analytics APIs, messaging infrastructure, multi-tenant data pipelines, and AI-powered automation tooling.

This role requires someone who is highly proficient in using AI coding agents (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, Claude, custom agents) as a force-multiplier in daily engineering work — not as a novelty, but as a core part of your workflow.

What You'll Do

Design and implement backend features for a multi-tenant SaaS platform (WhatsApp Business messaging, broadcast, automation, analytics)

Own technical designs and drive cross-repo coordination (backend / frontend / messaging services / billing)

Debug complex production issues across distributed systems (async job chains, webhook pipelines, multi-tenant data flows)

Build and use AI agents to accelerate engineering workflows — requirement analysis, code generation, code review, testing

Collaborate directly with PM, CS, and international engineering teams in English

Requirements

What We're Looking For

5+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend development skills (language agnostic — .NET, Java, Go, Python, Node.js all acceptable)

Experience designing APIs, data models, and async workflows for multi-tenant SaaS systems

Proven ability to debug and resolve complex issues across multiple services, queues, and databases in production

Actively uses AI coding agents (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, or similar) as a core part of daily development workflow

Experience with AI agent architectures, tool calling, MCP, or LLM-based workflow orchestration is a strong plus

Experience with .NET / C#, MongoDB, or Google Cloud (Pub/Sub, BigQuery, AlloyDB) is a strong plus

Domain experience in messaging, IM, customer support platforms, or WhatsApp Business API is a strong plus

Professional working proficiency in English — able to read/write technical documents and collaborate with international teams

Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment
